Brigadier General Robert E. Gaylord, US Army, Retired, Named Chief Executive Officer

January 30, 2006: NEW YORK-- The Board of Governors of the Leader to Leader Institute has appointed Brigadier General Robert E. Gaylord, United States Army Retired, effective January 30, 2006, as the Chief Executive Officer to lead the staff in launching the 2006-2008 Plan of Work. The Board also announced the appointment of Keith Timko as President, and promotion of Jeong Bae as Vice President of Programs and Marketing.

General Robert Gaylord retired from the United States Army on January 1, 2005 after a long and distinguished career culminating in his assignment as the senior Public Affairs Officer in the Army.  General Gaylord served extensively overseas and in combat zones, commanded at numerous levels, and held various, diverse staff assignments. He was the first U.S. spokesperson in Bosnia after the 1995 Dayton Peace Accords, and served in Army Recruiting Command as Deputy Commanding General responsible for all recruiting east of the Mississippi, Europe and Puerto Rico. After retirement, General Gaylord was a management and strategic communications consultant, and served on several Boards.

Keith Timko began with the Institute as the Director of Engagement and has served as Acting President since October 2004. Keith received a MBA in Social Enterprise from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business and currently volunteers on behalf of Columbia Business School, the East Harlem Tutorial Program, Homebound Cooking Program and Net Impact (an initiative of Business for Social Responsibility).

Jeong Bae , previously the Chief Marketing Officer, was primarily responsible for overseeing the implementation of a strategic marketing plan and managing communications and outreach efforts including publications, website and e-newsletters. Jeong graduated from Parsons The New School for Design, and received an undergraduate degree in Design and Management.

At the same meeting, the Board of Governors approved the Institute’s 2006-2008 Plan of Work with the following goals:

  1. Engage social sector leaders in partnerships across the sectors that provide new and significant opportunities for learning and growth that change lives and build healthy, diverse communities;
  2. Provide innovative and relevant resources, products and experiences that enable leaders of the future to address emerging opportunities and challenges; and,
  3. Build strong institutional and financial capacity to sustain an aggressive, vibrant and results-focused Leader to Leader Institute, supporting social sector leadership.

The Leader to Leader Institute’s mission is to strengthen the leadership of the social sector. Established in 1990 as the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management, the Institute furthers its mission by providing social sector leaders with the essential leadership wisdom, inspiration and resources to lead for innovation and to build vibrant social sector nonprofit organizations. It is this essential social sector, in collaboration with its partners in the private and public sectors, that changes lives and builds a vigorous society of healthy children, strong families, decent housing, good schools and work that dignifies, all embraced by the diverse, inclusive, cohesive community.
